met an israeli girl, Rinat, in the hostel in the morning i arrived and tried in vain to rally people together to hire a car with us to go round peninsula valdes because its much cheaper than doing a tour. anyway tho like i sed it was in vain and our attempts failed a record 3 times. it was not our lucky day at all but we learned a valuable lesson not to trust italians. sorry, i hope nobody italian decides to read this.
so had to book the ridiculously expensive tour because i didnt have time to wait around another day but it was fun. went on a boat to see the whales and although u only get glimpses of them on the pictures, b eing there u get a really good view and they come surprisingly close as well. when i was there it was a mother and baby whale and theyre so huge. and on the way back on the boat practical tidal waves were coming over the sides and we all got absolutely soaked. i was wearing a highly attractive yellow mac at the time but it reassuringly made absolutely n o difference at all - it was like getting in the shower fully clothed and i imagine a yellow mac would make no difference in that case either.
and then off to see the seals but theyre soo lazy they just lie there and u have an irresistible urge to poke them with some sort of stick to see if theyre even alive. unfortunately this isnt possible because its a seal-only beach and nobodys allowed to walk on it, let alone poke the endagered species with sticks. oh but it was so funny cos one of the seals wanted to use the other as a pillow but the pillow-seal wasnt having any of it and they got into a bit of a fight which was hilarious and so the first seal stopped leanin on him. but then if u watched closely he was gradually inching his way back to lean on the other one again - i swear it was one of the funniest things iv ever seen.
and after that we went to see the peguins! finally! iv been lookin forward to seein them for ages now and even tho it was only a small colony it was very cool, i love the way they waddle. also we saw 2 of the penguins kissing - very cute.
then back in the minivan to rush back to the bus station so i could get my bus in time. except we got a flat tire on the way so i had to flag down one of the minivans from another similar tour and they took me instead and thankfully i got there in time.
