Fun in Acapulco
From The Foys on Tour - Latin America in Acapulco, Mexico on Apr 23 '08
More beaches! More bars! More taxis! More tacos! This is Acapulco....
Once again we lucked out with hotel rooms - our room is on the beach, 11 stories up, with a spectacular view of the bay and cable TV with English channels!! The bus ride here took a far longer then expected 9 hours, so on our first night we checked in and then made our way our to dinner and drinking. We ended up at a place called Beach Party, literally next to the sand, with a huge outdoor open bar and views right across town. Definitelyt a holoiday and party town, though by midnight we were both fading and retired to our room for some much needed sleep.
Acapulco - Elvis has left the building
After a room service breakfast, and some general lazing about (Ali freaked out the poor Mexican waiter who brought us room service by answering the door in her PJs - I don`t think he was expecting that!), we took care of a few odds and ends today, including laundry and the like. We took a leisurely stroll down Acapulco beach where we were offered drugs not once but twice in 5 mins (must be the tattoos), and had a late lunch of decidely un-Mexican chicken wings and hamburgers. At around 6pm we headed to La Quebrada, which is where the city meets the cliffs, and where the famous clavadistas or cliff divers perform. A troupe of around 10 of them dove from heights as big as 35m into a shallow surging sea - pretty impressive stuff, so BJ wasn`t too offended when Ali bought a photo and had it signed by the main guy, who proceeded to very politely hit on her ;). We also had a brush with fisticuffs as an older Mexican lady, determined to get a good spot for photo taking, started elbowing Ali quite forcefully in the ribs and belly, jockeying for room. Ali but a quick stop to that by grabbing the woman`s arm and making it clear there was a good reason not to do that, given her condition!!
Our last dinner together as a tour group was fairly low key - BJ has managed to pick up a vicious case of the flu and Ali is tiring by mid evening, so we headed back to our hotel and slept.... last stop, back to Mexico City.
