The drive to Crater Lake sucked, I'll just say that right off the bat. The construction was a nightmare, so we got in way later than we hoped. However, we did stop on the way in Ashland, OR, which is a great little city, and had dinner at our first micro-brewery in Oregon, Standing Stone. The beers were great, but the pizza was to DIE for. Not "real" pizza: pesto, gorgonzola, artichoke hearts, grapes and candied walnuts. Yeah, we ordred a second one to go and ate it at the camp ground later :o)

We pulled into Crater Lake late, like many of the parks, but were really determined to see the sun set, so we made camp and got our lazy butts up 6am. We bundled up in warm clothes (we've got this whole higher elevation = colder temperatures thing down now) and drove to the western side of the lake to catch a spetacular sunrise. We were both a little grumpy cause we were tired, but it was worth it. We spent a little more time exploring the lake, and then broke down camp to make our way to Willamet Valley for some much needed wine tasting!
