Day Three - Part Two - Kansas City
From Moving West! Michigan to Portland, OR in Kansas City, United States on Aug 02 '07
I've heard stories about the BBQ in KC. Unfortunately, by the time we rolled in it was almost 11pm. The restaurants were all closed.
We stopped by the stadium complex, where a very nice (and apparently very lonely) volunteer worker was directing traffic for a motorcycle rally being held there. We talked for about half-an-hour, and he tried his hardest to convince us to stay until Saturday for the ribs... said that they were definitely worth it. We thanked him, and headed for downtown.
Southern cities like Kansas City remind me too much of home.
First stop, 18th and Vine. I wanted to see the Jazz District. Hell, I wanted to go hear some music, but with my kid and my dog in tow, it wasn't that kind of trip. I took some pics and hung outside for a moment, then we headed further into the city.
For some reason, Ilan was really taken with KC. I mean, really taken. He wants to come back. I liked what we saw of it, and I would like to return for the ribs and the jazz, but I wasn't enamored, like he was. Southern cities like Kansas City remind me too much of home.
We drove around for a little while, checking out the Saturday night partiers. There wasn't much else for our little family to do, so after about half-an-hour we resumed our westward course.
