The Kasteel De Haar was amazing and is definitly worth a visit. It was partially demolished but fully rebuilt in the early 20th century with all mod-cons including running water and electricity.

Unfortunately, in recent times too much water is being sucked out of the water table and the whole structure is sinking at different points. There is a plan to install 400 concrete posts under the castle to shore it up.

Both the allies and the Nazies had "protection orders" on the castle during WWII.
