Well hello there!!

From Matt and Jess' big day out! in Brisbane, Australia on Apr 30 '07

Well hello there!  Long time since I have entered anything on this - sorry!  We seem to have zipped around from one place to another at an alarming rate - just about keeping on top of e-mails but little time for blog.  Anyway have charged up my internet card so here goes....

Well last time we e-mailed we were in Sydney ...about four weeks ago!!!  We went out to the Blue Mountains which are absolutely gorgeous - went for a mega long walk which nearly killed both of us but well worth it - views were stunning!  I even got Matt to stay in a youth hostel with 'da youth' - sadly even though it was rated on several occassions as one of the best in Oz it was not up to Matt's high standards - back to the apartments shortly after!  From the Blue Mountains we ventured back into Sydney and then caught the night train to Brisbane ...watta mistaka to maka!  14 hours...yes fourteen hours stuck on a train ...It went soooo slowly I reckon we could have walked faster!  Anyways over the watchful eye of 2 police officers on the train (muggings are not uncommon apparently!) we made our way to Brisbane where we spent a few nights before heading out to the Sunshine coast for a bit of R & R ... this travelling is quite tiring you know!  Anyhooo....no surf but nice beaches to chill out on.  Went to Australia Zoo which used to be owned and run by Steve Irwin ...now run by his family - brilliant place - as good as you would ever get for a zoo!  Lots of crocs, snakes, camels, elephants, koalas (which sleep for 99% of the day and are sooooooooo cute).

Hired a camper from the Sunshine coast which had the feel of an old smokey pub ..it stank and had a sticky floor...hmmm.nice!  Our first leg in it revealed that the van was impossible to drive... who uses a stick shift these days?????  Also fridge broken...very important to keep 'tinnies' chilled at all times.  So returned the van the next day and picked up a lovely hippy camper...yes that is really what it's called!  It is bright blue and has flowers down the side... Matt cringes every time drives it!  I have a photo which I would love to post on the site but can't seem to get the pictures to show up properly!

Anyhow...in our new shiny van we trundled up the cost...visited a pineapple plantation, went to Noosa surf beach (but Matt couldn't get a surf...fierce compeition for waves by locals...).  Stopped off at Fraser Island (absolutely beautiful island) where I went up in a plane...which was pretty cool!  Also stopped off at Bundaberg (land of the ginger beer) before arriving at Airlie beach where we went out on a boat for a few days to tour the Whitsundays - absolutely stunning - water was beautiful... got to wear a very attractive stinger suit which looks even worse on than a wetsuit ...can you believe it!  Got to try out diving and went snorkelling on the barrier reef and around some of the islands around the Whitsunday islands.  Absolutely amazing - so many brightly coloured fish.  As soon as you put your head under the water there are fish swimming just cms from your mask - cool.  Got to do some proper sailing for a bit as it was quite windy - verging on sea sick but very exciting!  Also...much to my pleasure...the food was out of this world - good breakie and really good filling hot lunch and dinner and even a supply of G & T in the evening!  I was in heaven!  Sleeping quarters were cosy ...Matt and I shared a cabin with a German bloke called Timo who turned out to be really friendly ... he had the child bunk above our double!  Nothing like sharing a room with someone to help get to know them!!! There were about 35 people on board ...all of which were really friendly...had an ace time and made some travel buddies.

We are now back in Brisbane having spent the last few days driving down... hoping to pop across to Surfers Paradise tomorrow for a night or two and then fly over to Fiji!

Hopefully there will not be such a big gap until our next entry and I can get Matt to work out how to get the photos to work!

Lots of love to everyone!

Speak soon

Matt and Jess

;)

Wosson nobsters?? ello ello! its all sounding very nice out there....and you know i love to hear what a leisurely time you are having. sorry if i have'nt been too good with keepin in touch...i can only put it down to not having time to scratch me own arse, what with having to do the work of 2 people!..hmmm where did me partner go ?....i accepted an offer on the house last week for 250k, a couple who have sold and are in rented at mo...ideal. hopefully all go through with a bit of egging on. The buyers want a garden shed and a wooden back gate as part of the deal(hmmm did'nt someone say we should do a wooden gate???)it just so happens i know a guy, and he's willing to do my half quite cheap... yours is looking fairly pricey tho. oh well. i think i'm keeping the mileage down on your kit car, its been in the unit up on bricks for about three days now, jammed in reverse..only got another 15400 miles to wind back..saw it in a film once should be fine. let me know when you are taking orders, could do with lots of cheap boardies from Figi..thanks. Obviously i'll let you know if there's any cash deals with the house sale..obviously. have fun then ya lazy buggers speak soon GFTW

Hi you two, so pleased you are having such a good time, and it was lovely to see you on skype at the weekend. Hope you got my messages that Thailand should be fine, and Bri and Tim are waiting to hear from you - said would you like to go to Borneo with them to see the bonobos and orangutans - I should grab the opportunity. No doubt you are now chilling in Fiji. Shall have words with a certain young man - think he thought his comments were going to you privately, not posted on this blog! Continue to have a great time and lots of love

Great to hear from you, it may be four weeks, but you seem to have fitted in SOOOO much! Do you have 28 hour days? May Bank Holiday here, so needless to say it is p***ing with rain! (Technical meteorological term... at least two different words fit :) I envy you so much for having seen the fish in that part of the world, somehow I never quite made it, although Riannon did. Hope the photography is going well, shall I volunteer you to do an evening at the Camera Club next season? Bring me back a tiny shell from somewhere really special for my collection. Best Wishes, Nigel+Caroline

Wow, it sounds like you are having an amazing time! I hope Timo was not wearing nut huggers! I loved the blue mountins - how crazy is it seeing London doubledeckers there! So sorry for being slack with the e-mails. Uni work started to take over. Finished exams last week (wooooo hooooo) so had a good 11 hour drinking session to celebrate! Look forward to seeing the photos and reading the next entry of Jess and Matt's travels in the hippy camper!

helooooooo! yeey you're alive was getting a little concerned but so good to hear all your news. as nigel says its utterly tipping it down back here but we're still having fun starting revision for upcoming exams then gotta start planning summer thinking festivals cornwall and lots of work to pay for rent. good news is moving in with joel and simon next year so rent MUCH nicer and 3 minutes walk from uni!anyway it sounds absolutely incredible over there so pleased it so much fun can't BELIEVE how much you've packed in!!diving sounds particularly amazing. I'm sure they should partition part of the beach off for tourist surfers to give them a chance. ooh something I know mum really wanted to say before you headed to fiji is watch the internet over there apparently there and thailand are really bad for hackers so mum says not to pass any personal info, or do any banking over there I think that was it but you get the gist(sp.?) of it : ) waaa sounds so damn good cannot WAIT to see the pictures and to see the two of you but we wont talk about the coming home bit just yet! great to hear from you and keep us posted its great to hear all your news lots and lots of love xxx
