Day 11 - Granada, Spain - June 13
From Western Europe Peregrination in Malaga, Spain on Jun 12 '07
Hi everyone! Today we visited the city of Granada. It was about a 2 hour drive from Malaga, however it was worth the haul- we got to see the beautiful Spanish countryside and the city of Granada nestled between the Sierra Nevada mountains! Once we arrived in Granada we, as always, drove around for a while getting situated with the new city. We ended up parking in the University of Granada department of modern languages´ parking lot. We walked around for a while before stopping at a cute (and inexpensive!) cafe for lunch...we had delicious croissant sandwiches and a fabulous chocolate pastry dessert. After our wonderful lunch we found a tourist center that provided us with a map and walking tour of the city. We followed the tour around the city´s narrow, cobblestone roads. We saw amazing cathedrals, little homes, hidden cafes, enchanting gardens and bridges, AND Spain´s biggest attraction- the Alhambra! Unfortunately, you have to purchase tickets about a month in advance (which we did not do) but we were still able to observe the castle/monument from afar- the most amazing look-out poitn is Mirado de Sans Nicholas. We really enjoyed touring Granada but by the end of the day we were ready to get home. We made the 2 hour trek home, cooked dinner, watched some more CNN and headed to bed. Goodnight, we love you.
