I Wish My Fleece Hadn't Been Stolen!
From Asia. Joe and Heather Style in Da Lat, Vietnam on Jan 30 '07
We experienced what the cold of Da Lat was like when we got of the bus. We got there at 3 in the afternoon in our 3/4 lengths and t-shirts and immediatley needed to put on some long sleeves. I wanted to put on some socks too, but Heather said she would disown me if I wore them without full length trousers on. I took the best option and waited till we were inside!
If we thought that was cold we were in for a shock when the sun went down. It was the first time in a long time that I really NEEDED to have some cetral heating. We managed todrag ourselves out for some food. Again we took the advice of lonely planet and again we were disappointed. That's not too say the food was bad, it just wasn't good enough to justify the prices. We both had soups and Heather in particular got rid of her homesickness by having her chicken and sweetcorn soup!
The weather does get just a bit too cold in the afternoon. Especially when the only long sleeve top you've got is a waterproof!
We planned to stay there for a couple of days and have a look at some of the waterfalls around, but we then realised just how far everything was. It was about 60kms to the best waterfall and we'd have to take the journey on an 'easy-rider' motorbike. After barely being able to ride on the back of one for 5 mintues on straight road, I don't think I could handle being on one all day!
We had a lovely afternoon sitting by the lake though. The town really reminded us of a European town, something in Switzerland or France. It was the strongest colonial influences we had seen to date. We had to leave earlier than we'd like to have hoped though. The weather does get just a bit too cold in the afternoon. Especially when the only long sleeve top you've got is a waterproof! We decided to leave early and enjoy some more time in the sun!
