A cool building we saw along the way...known for its phallic nature. I like to think of it as a faberge egg.

Happy New Year! After a night of debauchery, it was nice to just sit at home and relax. We didn't get home till 3am, so we could really use the day to sleep. I had planned to go see the New Years Day Parade, but there was no way that was gonna happen. Way too tired. I woke up before my friends, so I watched TV for most of the day. I'm amazed at how large a role American pop culture plays in England - everything American from music to tv commerials to movies to celebrities are big here. Which surprises me because I find British music to be some of the best -mainly the British bands from the classic rock and 90's eras. (Beatles anyone?) But I guess American culture spans many countries, not just the English speaking ones - just look at Japan. But I digress. I didn't want the whole day to be a waste, so Tanya and I went out and took another walking tour. This time, it was a "Jack the Ripper" tour during the night. Our guide took us around to some of the spots where Jack murdered his victims back in the 1800's, specifically female prostitutes. It was pretty cool and informative, but it got a little weird when the guide started going into gory details of how he mutilated the women. Blech. But hey, it was a nice way to see parts of the city. A pretty big contrast from NYC, with not as many people on the streets. But I guess thats why they call NY the city that never sleeps.
