Watford Tournament of Champions
From The Beginning of my Journeys in Watford, United Kingdom on Jun 30 '00
I wanted to go into a little more detail on my soccer trip to England. We stayed in a hostel type setting with a one girl to a room and a bathroom was available in each room. This was quite a lavish setting compared to the sleeping arrangements in Sweden. All of the teams that were staying in our little community were American. There was a cafeteria and a little pub on site along with the soccer fields and lodging. Soccer is the main focus in Europe, the streets and towns basically shut down when there is a big game. Soccer in America is growing, but compared to the other countries I have been to America is way behind in the love of the game. Europeans would die for their team, and the committment they put out is amazing. In London we did a lot of sightseeing mainly by boat, which I do not suggest doing. The boat tours were long and boring. They did not really show us anything that we couldn't have seen from land. The structures in London are awesome though. We tried to go on the Eye of London, which is the worlds largest ferris wheel, but the reservations had to be made a week in advance just to get on. Westminster Abbey was beautiful, and I wished that I took more pictures. Some of our group went to see the crown jewels, but I opted out of that to go to the finals of our tournament in the Stadium (AMAZING!!). While in London we found a McDonalds and that acted as a beakon of hope for the rest of the trip. All in all the trip was long and tiring, but that was mainly due to playing 15 some games in a matter of 2weeks. The experience was one that I would relive everyday if i could. I will always have those memories and they are so good. Words of Wisdom: If you get the chance to do anything in a foreign country do it!
