Guess how far our apartment is from the beach? According to Garmin Global Positioning Systems, 485 feet. Give or take 17ft. Perfect for swimming before you wake up, perfect for swimming before dinner, perfect for walks before bed. The apartment is pretty tiny, but we love it. Highlights include an extra bed for visitors (hint, hint), original paintings by our neighbor, and (yes!) purified water. Overall, being this close to the sea is much more comfortable than downtown Cancun. We just wish we had one of Cancun=s amazing grocery stores (the bakery and produce departments in those stores are incredible). The store here in Puerto Morelos is, by all accounts, tiny. The upside is that it is very cheap (three bags of groceries = $10). Still, we may make some grocery runs to Cancun every now and then.

Since we=ve gotten here, we=ve just been relaxing on the beach and doing a little exploring of our small village. Last night the town square hosted an alternating basketball/soccer game and the sounds of Michael Jackson, Eminem, Alanis Morrisette, etc. We ate at a great restaurant called >Hola Asia= where they serve fresh Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian food. A dream come true...we=ll definitely need periodic breaks from constant Mexican fare. The good news is there is also a pizza place and a Mediterranean restaurant.

Watson work starts tomorrow with our first trip south to Tulum. (Hopefully, if we can figure out how to get there.) This first trip will just be to see the area and get an idea of what is happening on the turtle conservation scene. X=acel, the beach that I want to focus on here, is a bit north of Tulum but I=m not sure how much of a town there actually is there. This week I also want to begin to establish a relationship with some people at the Ecological Center in Akumal. I know that they have a turtle conservation program there and hopefully they will be able to give me some insight as to where X=acel currently stands, ecologically and politically. It may take awhile, though, because although my Spanish is sufficient, I=m still getting used to speaking it all the time.

And now for a multimedia addition to your seamail experience it’s: JERAD’s music pick of the week!

Dadada DDDDAAAA!

This weeks’s pick is: Badly Drawn Boy’s The hour of the Bewilderbeast. Coincidentally, this is Liza’s music pick of the week too, we’ll let you decide whether or not that’s a coincidence….

If you=re getting this email and would rather not receive updates from us, let us know. We won=t be offended, we promise. If you know someone who would like to receive these emails, let us know that too (with their email address, please).

Oh, and write us back! You get to hear from us, but we want to hear from you, too! Thanks to those that wrote us after Seamail #1. That email should be posted on our airtreks journal today, along with this one and hopefully a picture or two (for real this time) You can find the journal at: http://app3.airtreks.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/TripJournal.woa/wa/TJDA/showAuthorDetails?ref=AIRTREKS&authorID=liza.mueller&wosid=NO

Adios from Puerto Morelos, Liza and Jerad
