Hervey Bay is the town through which everyone going to Fraser Island has to travel. Not really alot to comment about this particular town, so I will dive strait into the Fraser Island experience.
Fraser island is the worlds largest sand island, and we did a tour in which 11 backpackers were given a 4X4 to explore it. The other 9 members were an odd bunch, that was the only downside. Still, can't complain, they let us drive, even though technically we are not allowed to, and it was brilliant. Flying down a 40 mile long beach at 80km/h avoiding the waves, bumping over sand dunes, threatening to 'pull some jumps' to scare the rich girls, so much fun.

Spent our time on the island swimming in beautiful lakes, driving around and partying. We even saw tiger sharks off the coast.
The whole trip was amazing and I would reccomend it to anyone.
