well apart from being the gateway to an amazingly rich country in both history and culture, there really isn't a lot to keep you in cairo. The museum and kahn may hold you for a day, the various mosques add some flavour and the citadel, perched high in overseership all point to its former glory. But the meat in this course is the mighty pyramids, a little way southeast, on a small plateau in giza. Spend the day there, pondering the grandness of a fallen empire, and try to incorperate a sunrise or sunset. but one of the most important things to do the whole time in this ancient land is enjoy, and ignore the thousands of bus tourists.
