More Rain
From Mel's Middle Eastern Mumblings in Tel Aviv, Israel on Feb 14 '06
I can't believe I am already again in a net cafe! The weather sucks! Honestly.
Last night after wandering around a closing Carmel Market, I met up with Karen and grabbed a falafel (Karen made gagging sounds when I suggested one... I'm thinking now that maybe they're Israel's equivelent to the hot dog stands you get on the side of the street in London that us locals would never touch unless very very drunk...) at an Arab place on Allenby street. We chatted for a while, but as the weather was crap and I was tired (as I'm sure was Karen who said she hadn't slept all week) we didn't socialise for long, and instead agreed to meet on Friday and possibly before as her father is due to visit her.
Today I slept in til 11(after a night of remarkably strange dreams - one involving Tel Aviv being flooded, and me being stuck in my room with a couple of kids from Ranolien... ones I didn't get on with), showered and then walked along the beach. It wasn't raining yet, but the wind was making walking unpleasant (basically I was eating my hair). After photographing the visual delight that is 'Chinky Beach', I then decided to explore inward, and made a dash for Ben Yehuda street before the rain. Very interesting and dilapidated; I have been scoping out places for some possible photos when the light improves.
As various Israelis have started talking to me in Hebrew or asking me directions, I'm guessing I'm not looking quite the twatpacker I... erm... am.
Tomorrow (please let the weather improve!) I plan to start looking for work. I am going to rest up today. I was planning to 'get my bearings' but if that involves getting a soaking, and therefore getting a chill... I think I'll give it a pass.
Have no idea how long I'm going to stay here, but I reckon I'll book the hostel for another couple of nights to give me time to try and find some employment. It's pricier here than I expected, but then it always takes a few days to get used to the currency and know what's a good or bad price, etc. If I don't get work, I'll pretty much have to either go on a Kibbutz (no!) or stay a very short time.
Oooh! What is this? Looks like the rain has subsided for the time being. I think I'll go for another explore, and try and save my net credit.
Ciaou!
