The hotel is a stunner (Thank you Hotwire.com) right on the Mississippi river and we look from our room straight through the magnifiscent gateway arch. We stroll up through the downtown area and pat the incredible ball stadium, all lit up and packed for the evening game. We find a couple of blues dives.  Beale on Broadway and St Louis Blues and Soup (really) So Blues and soup it is for dinner!!  Then across the road to Beal which has a wonderful patio.  Behind the stage the sun has set behind the Stlouis skyline, a train track runs overhead a few hundred yards away and huge freights roll by as a black woman with an incredible voice backed by a great band belts out blues and rocknroll all night.  Just a fantastic night.

WE spend a day just tramping downtown St Louis really enjoying this beautiful city and end up with a mississippi river boat ride.  Seems Paul Mcartney has been doing a US roadtrip along route 66, a lot of which we've ben following ourselves.  A few days ago he was here in St Louis and took his new bird to a local Italian, so we follow him and have a great meal in this little family run place called Lombardos.  Having night caps in the hotel lobby we bump into Ray a "Security" officer working in Columbia.  Real nice guy, but a little dangerous methinks.

Huge shopathon in the StLouis mall with specatcular lunch in the cheesecake factory then a claustraphobic trip to the top of the gateway arch.  650 feet up in a tiny metal pod with 3 strangers. Views of the city are amazing though.
