A Night at the Museum
From Why not? in La Paz, Bolivia on Mar 27 '08
After the trip to Corioco I figured I should check out some of La Paz´s culture, so after Spanish classes I checked out four of La Paz´s museums. The Museum of Contemporary Art was great, the Folklore Museum had a boring money exhibit, but the mask, feather, and ceramics were really interesting. It must be crazy during carnival watching all the people with the wild masks parading about. The National Art Musuem had some interesting pieces, most reflecting the Revolution in 1952, and the Museum of Instruments, although highly regarded by the Lonely Planet, was a bit of a disappointment.
I also was able to see a traditional music and dance performance at the municipal theatre. The music came from the Andes and was played on large drums and several different forms of flutes. Everything was great including the costumes and dancing.
Besides that, I did some shopping. Bolivians are known for their leatherwork and I had a leather jacket made and some leather boots that would go well with a nice pair of jeans. That was pretty much the week.
