Purpose of this destination- to buy "Dreamer" 38' Robertson and Caine Leopard Catamaran in Fort Lauderdale.

Most of time in Florida was spent buying and preparing Dreamer for the sail home to Australia. I think we shopped in every marine shop in Fort Lauderdale!

Did do a few touristy things...quick trip to Miami to have a "look see" and a few days at Disneyworld in Orlando.

When we finally sailed out of Fort Lauderdale we headed to Miami for a few days to experience the boat and wait for good weather.....next stop Bahamas.

Tuff life lying around waiting for a weather window to leave Miami.

Trivia: Fort Lauderdale is known as the "Venice of America" and is a major yachting center, with 42,000 resident yachts and 100 marinas and boatyards.

I am thinking about planning a spring break trip to Fort Lauderdale. Will it be a good enough place for three male grad students, who just want to have some fun but not girls gone wild fun?? Please let me know

Hi wmartin34 Bear in mind I am responding to this as an Australian who specifically went there to buy a yacht. Any of this of interest?....chill out, enjoy the weather, entertaining and pretty beach (no surf but still good), waterfront bars, alfresco dining, lots of spanish speaking people (read your blog), interesting locals and tourists, good shopping and most importantly drooling over boats...then think maybe you might enjoy this destination. Miami (1hr drive) is worth a visit as is the Hollywood Seminole Hard Rock Casino on the outskirts o fFt Lauderdale. Accomodation is best on Ft Lauderdale Beach Blvd. Hope this helps. More info needed? Happy to reply.
