I arose the next morning with high hopes that the clouds had cleared overnight leaving a breathtaking view of nothing but majestic snow-capped mountains. Unfortunately, to this day, I have no idea what can be seen out of that pokey hotel window in Chisapani. The cloud was here to stay.

It rained so much today, the inside of my faithful umbrella was just as wet as the outside and, with my light shower jacket, I was having trouble discerning whether I was wet from the rain or sweat.

There was, at least one thing that had promised by our leader to be better today, and that was the terrain. "A lot flatter," he said. But I was naive to think that anywhere in Nepal is well and truly 'flat', because the only difference from yesterday's terrain was that there were lots of steps: today the track was just steep.

We slogged on with little hope that conditions would be any better when we arrived in Nargarkot. Deep disappointment set in at the hotel reception when I saw a photograph on the wall of 50 or so peaks surrounding us, and compared it with the grey fog outside. On a clear day, even Mt Everest can be sighted. Its times like these when you really do need Minties.
