pancakes, beautiful views and lizards
From Around the Whole Wide World 2007 in Graskop, South Africa on Oct 11 '07
Up early again, I thought this was a holiday, left at 6am for Graskop a pretty village on the way up the hills in the North of South Africa. Breakfast was bought for us at a pancake shop in Graskop and I bought a blanket as it was surprisingly cold in the tent at night. Learnt something new about malarial mosquitoes they are not found anywhere over 1000m so we are OK for a while. Apparently the worst place is Vic Falls. After looking around Graskop we had a few more stops at God's Window a beautiful viewpoint over the forested hills the truck had struggled to climb and then Blyde's Canyon which was our lunch stop. Lunch on our truck is a regimented affair with groups of people having duties, like wash up or cooks help! It's like being in the brownies again. The canyon was impressive but involved 3 bridges that looked like they were made of cardboard. Next stop was amazing, we went higher still and our guide put on some dramatic music as we turned into a fantastic landscape with 3 mountains in the shape of rondavels, this area is where the San bush men used to hunt. Really fantastic scenery with many different coloured lizards.
