We have now bought our luggage for the trip after lots of agonising as to the best type of luggage to buy (mainly me doing the agonising, boys are so not bothered). We are travelling as light as we can - me, Archie and Stan are all taking hand luggage, Jont has a bigger holdall on wheels. Everything will have to be washed regularly but that should be fine.

People keep asking how we are going to pack for a year but that's the easy bit really (just pack for 10 days and go to launderettes) - it's packing up the house and sorting the practical home things that I'm finding a challenge. Well, brain numbingly awful, depressingly relentless, over-whelmingly tedious - but hard at the same time - might be a better description.

We did a car boot sale to get rid of all extra books, toys and clothes - bribing the kids with cold hard cash if they'd sort out their stuff. They have done it and each made £10.50 from the sale - we are hoping to convert it to US dollars before handing it over to avoid the lure of Woolies and *more* Transformers and YuGiO cards. I am also selling stuff (including my beloved Mini) on eBay.

FYI, I'm taking 1 skirt, 1 pair shorts, 1 pair trousers, 3 t shirts, 2 blouses, 1 dress, 3 vests, 1 jumper, a fleece, a raincoat, 2 swimming costumes, 10 pairs knickers and 2 pairs socks. 2 pairs shoes. And enough Calpol to knock out a rhino...

Wow - was just doing some biog updating on my various social networks (I just finished a new film myself not as grand as your latest) and visited here. Sounds like a great trip - enjoy. Adam Procter
