Delphi is an archarchaeological site and a modern town all rolled into one. In ancient times, it was revered throughout the Greek world as the site of the omphalos stone, the center of the universe.
Delphi is located on the slope of Mount Parnassus and overlooks the Pleistos Valley. It was the site of the ancient Apollonian Oracle. This oracle exerted considerable influence across the country, and was consulted before all major undertakings. She also was respected by the semi-Hellenic countries around the Greek world.

The modern town of Delphi, or Delfi,is situated west of the archaeological site. It is passed by a major highway. The two main streets running through the town are each one-way and extremely narrow. The town is a nice place to spend the afternoon shopping. It has an old world look and and feel. I noticed a number of ski shops along the way, so I assume the slopes of Mount Parnassus must be a popular destination for winter sports.
