Ngorongorocrater/Oldupai George
(Nicks story). After a night of pure luxury, we were up at 5:45am to get to the crater as the sun was coming up. It rained most of the night but the sun was trying at 6am to shine through. At the gate to the crater, a baboon jumped in to the jeep to try to steal some food....a good start.
Ngorangora is where all the rich animals live
The first view of the crater was amaing with the sun and shadows and it was also the first time that I have been cold for 4 months.

It took about an hour to drive around and down in to the crater and soon I got a view of the pink flamingos....brilliant. The crater was a bit like a wildlife park with some of everything. We did see our first cheetah (hasn't everyone) and a few other things but I didn't like having other jeeps around.
After a quick stop, we headed out after three hours in the crater and stopped when we saw the perfect elephant. We stayed with it for about 20 minutes (on our own) and really appreciated the wind, the smells , the noises and the views of the crater.

Anothe hour to get out and we were on our way to Serengeti. Not a bad way to travel.
We stopped for lunch to see the oldest footprints...3.6 million years old and the gorge they were discovered in. I spent an hour in the two room museum as things like this fascinate me...creation v evolution etc. Eventually I was dragged back to teh car and the ride to Serengeti.......until our left wheel bent in to the car and we had to hitch a ride!!
