Leaving Wellington

After 2 weeks of packing up my flat, tidying up odds and ends, saying goodbye to family and friends and trying to fit what I want to take into my pack (and then trying to carry my pack) it was time to head to the airport.  Saying good bye to Steven, John and Monique at the airport was not much fun, and I felt sorry for the people sitting next to me on the plane as I cried most of the way to Auckland..

But once I was there I didnt have the luxury of time to feel sorry for myself, with a short 30 mins to hurry across to the international terminal to check in, buy water and departure taxes before my plane started boarding.  This wasnt helped very much by the most unpleasant check in lady I have ever come across.  For some reason she felt the need to interrogate me on what I planned to do in Korea,my lack of a physical ticket (somehow the concept of an e-ticket escaped her), my lack of a visa (unrequired for short term stays in Korea), my lack of onward departing flights from Korea (clearly shown in my printed itinerary I gave her), and after this was all explained still felt the need to discuss my case with someone else, then she told me that the plane was boarding at 11.20, with a pointed look at her watch to illustrate that this was already passed.  Luckily the actual Korean Air people were much nicer!

For some reason she felt the need to interrogate me on what I planned to do in Korea,

My seat on the plane for my 12 hour journey was one at the back of the section, beside the toilets, where you cant lean the chair back cos the wall is in the way.  This may sound bad, but it was excellent as no-one else was sitting on my row so I had 5 seats all to myself!  I quickly spread my stuff over three seats to discourage potential interlopers, and spent much of the flight lying down while people passing on the way to the toilet gave me dirty looks, luxury!

Hi Keren! We had a little trouble checking in at Brisbane airport too, not having an onward ticket from Japan. The ticket from Korea to the Philippines seemed sufficient but it was pointed out to us that we would need a ticket from the Philippines. He thinks we will get deported back to NZ! Good to hear about your trip.
