NEW YEAR in BARRYDALE

New Year in Barrydale

Barrydale only 350km from Cape Town and on the famous (or infamous) Route 62 is a wonderful base to explore the Langeberg Mountains and many attractive hiking trails. And with two adventurous, exciting, naughty hike leaders such as Tony Burton and Karen Watkins, what better way to see the New Year in!

Accommodation: comfortable farmhouse with beds, mattresses, fridge, stove, hot showers and braai facilities.

What to bring: bed linen, food and utensils.

Group A - For the hardier hiker, shuffle cars to Barrydale and spend Saturday hiking to the overnight shelter in Grootvadersbos, if time allows climb the peak. Sunday hike to Grootvadersbos where hopefully someone will take us to Barrydale for the New Year celebrations!

Sunday recover from the hangover.

Monday return to CT.

Group B - For the not-so-hardy-hiker: Stay in the comfortable farmhouse and do day hikes in the area:

Moerasrivier is 10.5 km and takes approximately 5-6 hours

The Bertus Cooke Trail, an easy hike of approx 5km and taking 3 hours

Drive round the mountain to hike in Grootvadersbos Reserve

Visit Ronnie's sex shop, wineries or just read a book and play board games.

According to peter Phillips there are pythons at the Country Pumpkin restaurant, (“No wonder they have never had a burglary,” says Puffer, “Who would want to steal a python”).

Cost: Group A – R150 plus petrol, 12 places

Group B - R265, plus petrol, maximum 30 people.

Bank details: Nedbank, Claremont, a/c no.1046348396, branch code 104609 and fax deposit slip to 086 671 2666 – put Bdale and surname in the reference blocks, e.g BDALEWATKINS.

********Please note: bookings are only confirmed when payment has been received****** N.B. When booking please let the coordinator know if you can offer a lift and for how many, or require a lift and where you live. Those doing the traverse from Barry dale to Grootvadersbos will need to be collected on Sunday afternoon. If you have any ideas about this, please advice the coordinator. Possibly go for a day walk in Grootvadersbos and bring the hikers back.
