In Linz with Joe Joe!
From EuroTrip 2006 in Linz, Austria on May 28 '06
After a bus ride from Prague, our new friends guided us to Wien Westbanhof, the main train station. From there I took a quick ride to Linz on a train car full of 14-year olds coming back from a class trip. I turned around to find one of them videotaping me! The kids started trying to speak English to me when one of them recited the words to the Culture Club's '80s classic, "Do you really want to hurt me, do you really want to make me cry..." So very random. I soon had about 20 kids turned around in their seats staring at me, laughing and shouting out random questions in German and broken English.
It was so great to see Joe Joe, my Austrian friend who was at Ivey for the last year on exchange. We chilled at his room in residence, minimally filled with his stylish clothes, pointed shoes, tuna and cases of bottled water.
Do you really want to hurt me, do you really want to make me cry
For dinner, we visited this amazing hilltop restaurant Pöstlingberg Schlössl, with a view of the citz. There we ate a fantastic meal and chatted like always. The waiter, an older fellow named Wilfred was quite taken with me and kept calling me "darling", told me he loved me in Mandarin and even fed me the last gooseberry on my dessert! That's service!
The next day, it was off to the Johann Keppler University Mensa Markt for breakfast with Joe's best friend Hubert, a super nice guy studying Business Education. Then it was off to the Lamplmayr home on their lovely farm with a cool view of the nearby village. They have dairy and beef cattle, a horse, some turkeys and even a goat! We drove through a nearby village Friedstadt on the way back to Linz.
It was very sad to leave Joe Joe and I will miss him lots!
