An excert from an article entitled "12 things to see in 12 days, by public transport, out of season", by Karen Watkins.
It rained throughout the night, thick drenching rain, noisy, bleak. Next morning was the same but I patiently waited, hoping that there would be a break so that I could take some pictures. In the end I braved the storm covering my camera with a plastic bag, more plastic bags in my shoes (old hiking trick).
The rains of Tipperary Plains

The fortified bastion of the Rock of Cashel appeared to be a bleak windswept place in the stormy weather. Perched on an outcrop of rock, the large cathedral, ancient round tower and Romanesque Cormac’s Chapel rise above the Plains of Tipperary, silent witnesses to many stirring events of Irelands history.
And it continued to rain! So I moved on to the next town and Cahir Castle. This imposing complex of buildings is located mid-river, utilising every part of an outcrop of rock. It was an ideal position for defence but, with the advent of artillery, was attacked with cannons in 1599 and Lord Cahir surrendered.
