Africa. How many people can say that they have visited Africa? Definitely not somewhere that I had expected to go during this semester. Tunis is a very interesting city. unlike any of the others that we have visited. Upon arriving we had to go through extreme immigration measures before we were allowed to step off of the boat. We were told that the markets in the center of the city were fun to go to and that it would only be about a 5 Euro/per person cab ride. Well, since it's that cheap, it must be close enough to walk, right? Wrong! After a 45 minute walk (not even knowing if we were walking in the right direction) we found an English speaking individual who told us the market was still another 30 minute walk. Well at this point we just decided to grab a taxi and ended up paying the same 5 Euros that we would've if we had picked up the cab by the port.

Interestingly enough, on the ceiling of our cab there was clear, plastic, BARBIE paper tacked up. No seriously, basically a sheet of plastic with hundreds of pictures of Barbie and Skipper on it. Anyway, we made it to the market safely and decided to stay in a large group hoping that we would not get hasseled as much. The strange part was that instead of the girls getting harassed by the people in the market it was more the boys that were getting grabbed and called to. Each shop, one after the other, had all of the same merchandise. Mike and I decided to purchase paintings which we were told cost 40 Euros (about $48) we managed to work the guy down to 10 Euros a piece!! Pleased with our purchases we decided to head back to port.

Just the simple thought of being in Africa absolutly made my day, just another country and continent marked off my list.
Tonight, was our fancy dinner with the Captain where we all got to dress up (the girls in dresses and the boys in suits). We went to the Captain's cocktail party where we received our first free drinks of the entire trip...and trust me, we made the best of that. That night was spent in the casino. I managed to lose70 Euros playing roulette and then, borrowing some of Mike's winnings, won 80 Euros playing Blackjack. It was tonight that I realized that I will no longer be spending money on roulette because i was seriously kicking ass in blackjack. The night was just good in the casino all around as Mike won 200+, Adam won over 50, Kramer won 30, even Tracy got into the action and won 5 from video poker! :)
