Wow, a real change of pace.
Back into a big bad city after ages of relaxed and isolated spots.
Durban is a bustling City , with a bit of an edge.
I took a walk into town today to explore the markets. In several hours of walking I didn't see another white face and unlike previous times , i was aware that it might not be safe.I came back to my lodgings to find most of the areas I'd been in circled on a big map as " no go " areas. Impossible to take photos, so page might be a bit boring I'm afraid.
If i could I'd have taken pics of the stalls selling animal carcases , bones and bits for medicine. I'll stick with the National Health , thank you very much.
I thought it was time i got a haircut. Instead of my usual ' clipper all over' i got a proper cut , neck shave with a cut-throat razor and finished off with a head massage. All for 20r - about 1 quid 50pence.
As the balti is to Birmingham, the ' bunny chow' is to Durban. Not, as you might expect, rabbit & rice, but a hollowed out half loaf filled with curry. A strictly no cultery affair.Very tasty and filling it is too, and all for a couple of pounds
I treated myself to a night away from the dorms and traded up to a single. They're actually garden sheds in all but name ! At least got some uninterrupted sleep for once.
