Well after a rough night out on the 4th of July we caught the bus/ferry to Dubrovnik at 6:45AM. The original bus was sold out so we got the "backup" bus which was not quite so comfortable but hey we got there at the same time. We finally arrived in Dubrovnik, or the "pearl of the Adriatic"as it has been called and it was hot, hot, hot and sunny! We were attacked as we got off the bus by little old Croatian ladies trying to get us to stay with them. We selected one lady...actually she selected us and really gave us no choice! After we dropped of our bags we took the bus into the old walled part of town. The walls of Dubrovnik are apparently the best preserved in the world and you can walk around the entire top of the walls, which is pretty awesome and has great views. The old town isnt that big and you can walk around it in a few hours. We saw a bunch of churches and got lost in a bunch of allys and went to the War Photo exhibit and had pizza AGAIN! We met op that night with our Aussie neighbors and found a great place to watch the World Cup. Dubrovnik is absolutely packed with tourists, tons of Americans and cruise shippers...I heard more English than Croatian here!
Thursday I was on a mission to swim and be lazy since we didnt really get to go to the beach on the islands. I went in search of the places to swim along the wall which goes right down into the sea as opposed to the conventional beach. After walking back and forth many times I managed to find the hole in the back of the wall that led down to some rocks you could jump off of into the sea. It was a pretty sweet spot, really hot but the water was amazing and clear and you could look down into the water and see the rocky cliffs going straight down. I met up with Andrew later that evening who had found some of our friends from Split, Hvar and Korcula and we all met for dinner and some clubs where we of course met even more cool people...great travelers to be found in Croatia!
All in all Croatia was pretty fabulous...despite a few bumps in the road or trees or whatever! Everyone raves about how spectacular Croatia is, well they are right, its wonderful, a little expensive, but definitely worth a trip!
