Practical Information:  We boarded the train for Dover at the Canterbury East station.  The fare was £5.20 per person. It was a short trip of 20 minutes.  We choose to take a taxi from the train station to National Car Rental on Snargate Street (fare approximately  £5.00).

Impressions: Dover is a busy port city and it looks like one and has the traffic to match.  However, our intent was to visit the White Cliffs so we didn't spend  time in Dover.  The drive to cliffs was about 10 minutes...just follow the signs for Dover Castle.

It was extremely windy, gale force, later in the day, but we decided to walk out to the viewing area anyway.  Gusts of wind pushed us along the path or forced us to fight our way forward depending on it's direction.  It was cold, but exhilarating.   The coast of France was barely visible and the ferries where fighting their way through crashing surf.

Back at the car, it was nearly impossible to get the car door open as the vehicle next to us had parked so closely.  There were several vacant parking slots, but evidently those slots weren't acceptable. As I struggled to get into the car, the driver yelled over at me that I had dented his car or to quote:  "Thank you for denting my car!".  Seeing no sign of a dent on his car, I quietly responded that I could not see any dent and I had not dented his car. Evidently, my response was construed as argumentative because Dented Car Guy got out of his car and came over to stand next to my window and yell: "Thank you for denting my car!".  The civilized thing to do at this point would have been to ignore him, but I'm an American so my response was: "You're welcome!".  Next came the reply, "You're a lovely woman, you are!".  Followed by my equally adult response of "And you're a fine representative of your countrymen!".  With civilities now exchanged I drove away leaving Dented Car Guy looking after me with a very puzzled expression on his face.

Why do I include this story? Because in retrospect it's funny and the adrenaline really warmed me up!
