We got going out of LA nice and early but that didn't stop the traffic on the 405. Nor did we beat the crowds in LAX. But we were in good time, so we didn't bother feeding into the collective anxiety of the oversized families and tour groups who all seem to be in a rush, but who all move at a deafeningly slow pace.
The flight left on time! Amazing.
Flying. It's odd that you can fly over the entire United States and not ever travel over an area that seems to be inhabited.
We finally arrived in Baltimore and waited for the bus for too long, especially because we didn't really know what we were doing. For all we knew, we could have been entirely in the wrong place. But eventually we got on a bus which drove suspiciously deep into the country where it eventually, to our surprise, made its way to a subway station. From that station we sat patiently until we reached Foggy Bottom, DC--the one and only. And there we were!
Out to dinner at Cosi's, a predictable eastcoast favorite. Then off to a goose-chase for rice krispy treat ingredients- -marshmellows are more scarce than you think.
More good things tomorrow. Though not the zoo, which was suggested. Too hot, too crowded. We'll try to stay in the shade.
