“I have come to accept humanity for all that it is: corrupt, beautiful, ugly, kind, hurt… and worth fighting for.” |
As the plane hits the runway in Denver, Colorado, I realize that the world keeps on turning and lives continue no matter where I am. And the world here in the United States has certainly been turning - from the late, dry summer air of the Denver I left, to the snow and craze of Christmas and American consumerism. Being back with family and friends is amazing, and is giving me a chance to process and reflect on the trip from a different perspective. It was a difficult year for me, and in many ways, a difficult trip: learning about yourself is never easy. It can be raw and painful. But as I gaze out over the Denver skyline, there are a few thoughts and reflections from the trip that stick with me.
I now know that I need to balance my life and hang on to the patience and kindness that develops on a trip. (Thank the countless uncomfortable hours spent on a bus or train that taught me this.) I need to remember that the people I love in this world are amazing and worth more than anything to me. I need to remember to pursue an inward spiritual journey. I learned to love and smile and push through any situation no matter how difficult. I learned to be confident and independent. I learned that no matter what language I speak, a smile and a little kindness are infinitely valuable. I learned that I need to accept defeat sometimes and let go of some dreams, but become excited for new unexpected adventures and dreams to come. I need to stop worrying so much and sometimes just sit and BE. Be comfortable with silence. Be patient. Think. Be still. Breathe. Experience each feeling right here and now, and savor it. There are millions of lives all around us at this very moment existing alongside us: Death beside us, pain and suffering, and glorious joys happening each dizzying second. I have come to accept humanity for all that it is: corrupt, beautiful, ugly, kind, dangerous, lonely, hurt, lovely… and worth fighting for. We need to reach forward and embrace it all.
