“The waiting in lines, to wait on customer service, to wait for boarding, to wait on an airplane, to wait for baggage, to ... ” |
The day to leave arrived quicker than expected. Everyone was excited at 6.30am beginning our journey, cheerful rather than tearful goodbyes and by the time Billy had done his hugging and kissing duties he was well and truly ready to leave.
A comfortable drive to the airport, a quick flight to Sydney, 6 hours to Nadi followed by a chance to stretch our legs, check out what not to buy and a noisy game of balloon volleyball with a few ring-in kids. Security tolerated us…bad sport if he red carded the kids! Brilliant…Billy slept eight hours straight through to Los Angeles. Movies weren’t bad (similar system on Air Pacific as on Qantas), Billy watched Chronicles of Narnia twice, Dick and Jane, Last Holiday and a basketball movie I’ve already forgotten the name of. By this time it had hit us however, traveling is great, the destination is fantastic, getting there however, is harrowing. The waiting in lines, to wait on customer service, to wait for boarding, to wait on an airplane, to wait for baggage, to wait for a bus…and to finally arrive..relief! I particularly admire the little guy for being upbeat most of the time and not cracking it. Kim said the United check-in included the entire cast from Jerry Springer for the last two years (plus security). We had to walk some distance at the LA airport, so very glad we chose wheeled backpacks, we’re sure the airport has its own post code.
We’ve also learnt that our entire itinerary follows the school holidays of the country we are in at the time, it’s a good thing we like kids.
Having finally arrived in Denver, and into our hotel after a quick meal at ‘Toms Diner’ it’s 11:30pm and hoping for a relatively early start in the morning.
Food Watch
Billy’s food consumption is always a little tricky. He’s very fussy and refuses to eat pretty well anything. So far he’s eaten Hungry Jacks at Melbourne Airport, half a lamington at Nadi (and I thought Lamingtons were Australian), McDonalds at Los Angeles and Chips and a milkshake in Denver. I don’t think he’s actually eaten anything served to him on a plane (maybe fruit juice). Chips and diet coke being his staple diet we will be looking to expand this.
Tool of the Day
Kimmy, while filling out the outgoing passenger card, had a long hard think about her occupation. Although she plans to go back to teaching next year, and has worked in project management and academic roles in the past, currently Kim’s work is managing the kids, Will and gymming ……a full time job. However, not to be phased, and of course wanting to keep up her professional appearance she eventually wrote down: Exucutive
