My cousin turns up announcing we are going on a picnic. Its so nice to have someone else organise my life, and a rare occasion. We go to Elephant Rocks, a local cove with a sandy beach. The views on the way to the cove are truly out of this world, I have never seen such surf, and the colours of the sea are breathtaking. It is the size of the ocean aswell, absolutely amazing. They are lucky people to live near all of this, with the country close by, but also the sea. I remain envious!!
Matthew has a great time at the beach. He ends up naked as he gets drenched by the waves. But he loves it, not a note of fear from him. We cover him in suncream and he spends his time throwing sand and chasing tennis balls.
On return to Denmark I realise I have been burned on my legs where I forgot to put sunscreen on. They look bright red in a couple of hours, so I know it will be bad.
Again Lloyd has a screaming episode and I struggle to cope with him. Steve goes fishing (the first time since he was 14), so I am left with the 2 kids. Luckily my family look after Matthew whilst I endeavour to sort Lloyd out. It is hard to know what is wrong with him, in the end I just think he is irritable as is tired and fed up of being moved around. When I finally get him to sleep he sleeps for hours.
The evening ends in a traditional BBQ, though my aunt confesses she isnt a great fan of these so maybe isnt a typical Aussie pasttime after all.
We say our goodbyes, and I feel choked once more. I shall miss this corner of my family immensely, and also the place where they live. I can honestly say it was a paradise, and if given the opportunity I would live here in a shot. It gives me food for thought on the lifestyle that my 2 boys are leading currently, and whether I should look at alternatives for them to give them greater freedom and more exposure to the countryside. It upsets me that Matthew acts like a townie, scared of the dogs, flies, sheep, and more. But maybe it is just his age...
