When Spanish conquerors arrived 500 years ago to the Rio de la Plata estuary, the front line of the Delta islands system was located aproximately 60 miles northern from the actual point in San Isidro city and it was a spot somewhere near Zarate sorroundings.
The 70 meters the islands grow towards BA city (South)each year is easily explained because of huge amounts of sediments that deposit as water currents looses power. The "Juncos" are one of the firsts water plants that start new islands formation.
Due to organic degradation, the islands produce a considerable amount of butane gas that in some cases is used by islanders to heat their houses or cook. Just digging a stick in some islands will show you how gas comes out as bubbles.
