Arrived Safely in Gan Yavneh | May 06 09'
"Yes, you read right the other day, I did come to Israel from Philadelphia via Chicago. It made for a very long day, but eventually, I arrived safe and sound at Ben Gurion airport. In Frankfurt, I saw many Asians wearing masks against Swine flu. Otherwise it would be easy to forget that there is a problem. Much to my surprise given my crazy routing, my bag arrived quickly and without any difficulty. David, my driver, was waiting for me and was happy to see me again. Many of his regulars have cancelled their trips this year given the economy, so he was especially happy that I was here. The fact that I will need him two or three times during the trip probably didn't hurt either. He dropped me at Sherri's office and, as usual, after 5 minutes I felt like I had never left her company. By this time about 26 hours had elapsed since I had slept in a bed and I was having trouble making complete English sentences, but we managed to get caught up. After a quick stop at her home, we went out for sushi in Ashdod. I was at least able to read the basics from the menu and to ask the waiter for water and to lower the music…so my Hebrew has not deteriorated too much, but I have already promised myself to go back to my lessons once I return to the States. It is good to be at Sherri's house. Last time I was here, I didn't have time for a visit to Gan Yavne and I missed it terribly. This time feels like a proper visit now that I am here in this lovely home with this warm and loving family. My blackberry seems to be working sporadically. I am assuming that it will be better in the big cities, but maybe the universe just doesn't want me checking email so often while I am visiting with such dear friends. It is now past 10 and I must be up at 5 tomorrow AM as I am off with Sherri on a little adventure… but more about that tomorrow after some much needed sleep. This time feels like a proper visit now that I am here in this lovely home with this warm and loving family.
