Got to the Inka capital, Cusco, Fri afternoon after spending a sleepless cold night and hot morning on the bus. The centre of Cusco is an amazing sight and must have some of the best colonial architecture in South America. It is also a bit of a party destination, but not for me so far.

Sunday, had an early start to go rafting on the Urubamba river. There were only 5 of us and the guide. No-one had much experience and this was evident as we set off a bit wonky. We soon got a rythm going and it was fairly important as we hit grade 3 rapids. We were in the water for 2/3 hours, and i definitely wanted more. Half way through we stopped to jump from a bridge over the river (i think it was about 12 metres, def taller than my house).

Since Monday i´ve been living with a Peruvian family and going to a language school. The family are fairly wealthy for Peruvian standards and the parents, in particular, have been very friendly. It´s amazing the conversations we´ve had, with my dictionary by my side. I do feel pretty tired tho as i´m having to think so bloody much, i even get homework from my teacher. The school is fairly empty of students at the moment, which is really good in that i am the only student in my class, but not so good for meeting people. After this week i think i will party a little as my 2 friends from Huaraz will be in town. Until then i will be a bod.

Eh, Gringo! ¿Cuál es el chisme? or What's the goss? - according to certain basic online translators... Just watching Battle Royal II on C4 - not sure I'll last til the end though as I remember it gets a bit political, and I've had enough of politics for one night after Question Time... Off to Dublin tomorrow for a weekend of Guinness and Jameson's with Maggie and her her Uni crowd, so mail you when/if I make it back alive. Be safe richx

Just read about 5 of your very enlightening travel entries, thought this site e-mailed me with updates, silly me. Skating down glaciers on bin-bags, preaching to pikey kids, going back to school with satchel and PE kit, nice. Sounds like your really getting a feel for the place Howard Moon style, im wondering what other travellers think when they see you, "wise young hippy looking for the new sound". Do you have a beard yet sir? Well further to e-mail when I was in the VIP lounge overlooking London from the 15th floor cocktail in hand and watching as Andy got a neck massage from a honey I did wonder what you were doing! Glad your back on the Gringo trail, stay safe, don’t forget to brush your teeth after the numerous massages. I think you will become a Lancaster road regular after these journeys!
