There are two things to know about Crater Lake:

1) it’s really, really gorgeous

2) it’s really, really buggy

There’s not too much to do except admire the deepest lake in the US, but a hokey ranger named Dave pointed us in the direction of a nice hike with views of the bluest water we’ve ever seen.  (direct quote: “My name’s Dave, but down there they call me Ranger Dave.”)

We also watched a gorgeous sunset and cooked dinner on top of another vista point (how romantic), only to be chased down by mosquitoes.
