As my roomie has taught me to say, the only way i can sum up today is "Wowee Kazowee".
Yesterday we had our down day so i decided to go into town after lunch
to change the scenery, buy a good coffee and pick up some cheesy
tourist gifts for everyone back home. I went back to the
Reluctant Fisherman (aka The Retarded Fisherman) for my ride back to
base around 2pm when a few of the skiers started ringing the bell at
the bar - well of course tequila shooters are showing up left right and
centre, it was the only thing that was breaking up the poker game going.
I had the right balance of beer/tequila to OWN the pool table, i think
i won 7 of 9 games, totally won against all the guides - i could do no
wrong on that table! Well the day did not end until well after
midnight when i finally crashed into my bed.
Only to be rudely woken up by my guide CJ at 8.30am the next day to
yell at me to get ready in 30 minutes we are flying. Oooooh dear
- every time i bent down to put all the gear on my world was spinning -
as you can guess i was not terribly psyched to go skiing.
We got out to the zone just before 10am and started on Guilt Trip, well
feeling sorry for myself in a delicate state actually had a good side
to my abilities. I was in low gear, taking it nice and mellow,
the only thing that was not really working was where planned to make my
turns - my hands were thrown up in the air several times during the run.
Lunchtime came and we had 4 runs already under our belt, i got my
second wind and was totally in a great mood - i was on FIRE - nice
mellow long runs on a beautiful sunny day was just what the doctor
ordered - i am on HOLIDAY!
Things were going great until my roomie Bilzie calls the next run - and
this one is a MOTHER!! it goes on and on and on - forevermore.
This is run number 9 and it must be 3pm in the afternoon - i am going
downhill fast in more ways than one. I hit cranky mode, the top
part of the run was not pretty, hard, icy bumpy crappy flat run and CJ
cops an earful. I catch myself in a shitty mood, i am on holiday,
heliskiing in alaska and i have the poops - what the hell is
that???!? I seem to be able to snap myself out of that dark hole
and i get to the next part of the run, when FINALLY i pull some sweet
turns like i am a pro - the first time all week i actually had it
together with style. Well happy place here i am.
I sit the next run out as the boys want to attack this nasty looking
couliour. They pick me up and we hit 2 more great runs - 11 runs
for the day - and i never thought i had it in me - let alone on a long
late night. Our last run took us by a glacier fall where CJ stops
to pick up a large piece of glacier ice for our cocktails back at
base. A totally cool day - full of surprises. We were the
last ones back to base, landing at 7pm just in time for a beautiful
sunset.
Tomorrow and maybe for the rest of the week seems to be a bit sketchy,
i am super happy about the last few days and will not be bummed at all
to walk out of here without another day in the zone. Sure would
be nice to try my abilities in some waist deep pow but thems the breaks.
Fingers crossed....
