Coral Bay was as far north as we got on our last trip to WA. It was another highlight. Last time we took a tour run by the local dive shop to snorkel with Manta Rays. This time we managed to catch the Whale Shark season. On our trip, apart from corals and tropical fish aplenty, we saw the dugongs (mentioned earlier), several turtles, a flying fish and got to snorkel with 2 Whale Sharks. Whale Sharks are the world’s largest fish - it’s a shark not a whale (which is a mammal) – they are spotted and swim slowly near the surface eating krill – they are “gentle giants”. Ours were around 7m but they can grow to 18m in length. We covered 90kms in the dive boat with a spotter plane overhead – it was a very full day and one we will remember for ever. We got to some remote lagoons on a quad bike snorkeling trip as well.
