So after my long journey to get to Copenhagen, Hannah and Mark met me at the bus station at 10pm. We went to their apartment, had some food, and I passed out. On Monday, we did as much as we could. We walked up the Round Tower that the king used to ride his horse up to survey his kingdom. Then we tried to go find the Vietnamese embassy so I could get a visa. This turned out to be more difficult than I had planned. It took us a good hour or so to find it. When we did though, it was really easy, they just told me to come back for my passport on Wednesday morning. We went back to the city center and had lunch (Italian - not bad for not being in Italy!) Then Hannah and I set out to replace my sneakers because I was wearing my painting ones around, which I decided were the ugliest sneakers in all of Europe. As anyone who knows me is well aware, shoe shopping is an exhausting adventure. We decided to sit down at a sidewalk cafe and have a coffee, which was definitely needed. Then we headed over to the Queens castle, which is her winter residence. The guards wear the funny fuzzy hats... I wanted to know if their heads sweat but apparently they aren't allowed to talk. We also saw a church that has the largest dome in northern europe. It was gorgeous. We got dinner on the way home.
The next morning we got breakfast - I had a Danish danish!!! (heehee) We took a boat tour of the canals of Copenhagen which was beautiful. We saw the very overrated Little Mermaid statue, although we found out that her head was stolen a few years ago and never found so they had to cast a new one. That made it funnier. After the canal tour (and a bacon-wrapped hot dog - YUM) Hannah and I went to Rosenberg Castle, which is the former residence of the royal family of Denmark. It was pretty, but what made it really worth it was the fact that we got to see the crown jewels. WOAH. I wanted them. Although the necklaces were so huge they might have broken my neck. Oh well. We got some lunch and were so tired we went back to their apartment to relax and do laundry before I left for Amsterdam.
