If you are ever on a drive and it is taking forever.. or your commute to work seems like a long time on the bus.. sit back and think of Krystal and I.. with our 68 hour train ride across Australia. Yes .. 4 hours short of 3 days. It was.. well, long.
We started in Sydney and headed west across the Blue Mountains. We made a few stops along the way. First in Broken Hill. This is an old mining town in New South Wales. Usually we stopped for water or to change drivers. The next stop was in Adelaide. The capital of South Australia. We went on a quick 1 hour tour of the town.. sitting.. on a bus.. then jumped back onto the train for some more punishment.
Travelling on a train could be worse. We were able to move to a lounge car and a dinning car.. but keep in mind.. we had no bed and were confined to a chair all 3 nights. Its seems boring but both of us could just stare out the window and watch the scenery slowly change as we rolled onward. At one part of the trip the train goes completely straight for over 450kms. Crazy.
The next stops were Cook (small deserted water stop) and Kalgoorlie (drunk Mining town) both interesting. Kalgoorlie mines gold and we went on a tour of the Super pit. It is aptly named as the hole is absolutely giant! Its amazing how much dirt had been removed over the years. We slept one more night and then pulled into our final destination.
Finally after 3 nights we arrived in Perth.. for our next adventure.
