on our quest south we had another early start to get the train down the penninsual to the port of chumphon. the journey was smooth and as there were no cheap seats left we were treated to the plane style service of second class, air-con, big seats and free food and drink oooooh. with the sea on our left and burma on our right the ride also showed us how thin the country is at that point.

on our way down we relaised i'd read the guide book wrongly and that the ferry we wnated to take to the island of ko toa wasn't going to leave for another 8 hours after we arrived, bugger.

but it gave us time to research some places that we could do our 4 day dive course and at 11pm we boarded the 5 hour night boat to ko toa. what we were faced with was a elderly coastal ferry with one big cabin at the back for the passages. the floor was covered with thin mattresses and foam bricks for pillows. all very cosey. also our lift to the boat was left so all that was available was the centre aisle so that everyones feet were pointing at us.

it was a warm clear night so we along with a few others took the extreme step of taking our matresses and sleeping on the roof. it was really cool. the stars shined down on us and we had a pretty good kip. we were awoken in the still drak morning with all the ships cargo being hastily unloaded. before we knoew it we were having a cheap coffee whilst watching the sunrise over ko toa.
