We arrived at the elephant Nature foundation on Febuary the 19th . Although very apprhensive as of what to expect , at the same time i was filled with excitement . The elephant is a beautiful creature and should be treated so. The elephant nature foundation is home to 30 elephants , all uniquiely different, the foundation allows these elephants to be at one with nature and enjoy life, elephant trekking is a major torist attraction all over Thailand , but many people are unaware of the pain and torture an elephant must go through in order to have a few moments of 'pleasure' whilst paying for an elephant ride.
Whilst staying at the park i learnt alot about animal awareness and became and allowed myself to emmerse in the tranquility of the place. We stayed in huts made of bamboo shoots, surrounded by trees , waking up to dogs howling , birds singing, only to look outside and there would be a baby elephant walking past waving it's trunk at you as if it were greeting you good morning. So surreal, picturesque and full of complete tranquility.
The founder of the foundation was a very special woman named 'Sangduen Lek Chailert' a very special woman who set up the foundation to bring her message about conservation and the humane treatment of Asian elephants to more people not only in Thailand but globally. That message was definately passed on to both myself and Jemma as we experienced some shocking sites, and saw some very distressed elephants. Lek is a beautiful woman and was completley in love with all her elephants, to watch her with them was incredible it was as if they spoke words...
Although secluded, and in the middle of nowhere, i really enjoyed my time here from bathing and feeding the elehants , trekking with them to the elephant haven and camping out under thep stars whilst singing songs , Thai cooking lessons with 'Pom' to digging mud pits and picking up their poo.
An eventful and worthwhile experience i'll never forget.
I now head for the Southern province, Kophnagan , Ko Phi Phi and onwards to Singapore.
