We arrived at the border town for my last night in Laos and the next day I got a bus to Chiang Mai. After a couple of days exploring the city including some great markets I went on a day trip where I got to ride an elephant, go bamboo rafting and swim in another waterfall pool. We also visited a Karen hill tribe which I thought were the women with their necks stretched by the gold rings and was really looking forward to seeing. It turns out there are four types of Karen tribe including the longnecks and the ones with the stretched ears but we visited one of the other two who didn't have any physical abnormalities to gawk at but I did get to shoot a crossbow which was fun.

Hi Alan, I came across your blog and loved the picture of you and your friends riding elephants in Chiang Mai. I am going to CM in February 2008 and I want to take the same day trip riding elephants etc that you did. Can you give me any infomation about how you booked your trek. Thanks very much and I look forward to hearing back from you. Amy
