Another day beginning off on a sour note; no hot water…or at least no hot water for five minutes. I waited for the water to get hot but with no luck; maybe it had something to do with the cold weather. I went to a finance meeting in the morning to find out that I owe the university money for my accommodation! I decided that I wasn’t going to let that bother me because I’m here to learn and have fun and I know that I’ve already paid for housing at home.

After the finance session I went with Elena to Rigg for some lunch; I had delicious quiche and a rich chocolate cake. The quiche was the best I’ve ever eaten! I left my lunch buddies early to catch the city tour at the Binks building on campus. It was snowing hard and a little cold. Our tour guide took us all around the city, on the Wall, down alleyways, and up onto the Rows. I’ll be writing a full historical entry soon after that will include all the fun facts and interesting information on the history of the city.

I veered away from the group after the tour and went shopping. I bought posters for my room: Rolling Stones, the Underground sign, and a South Park character poster. There wasn’t much of a selection. I went into Woolworths—yes, England still has them! I bought some putty to put up my posters, a Kinder Chocolate Egg that I got in Italy, room fragrance, an alarm clock/timer/thermometer /calendar, and a paper calendar. I stopped in the pound shop where everything is a pound and bought a few necessities like Kleenex and towels. Afterwards I stopped at the Chester post office and bought stamps. Man, are they expensive! I got twenty postcard stamps and ten letter stamps and they cost almost eighteen pounds! I (licked—because they don’t have the sticker ones yet like in the US) stamped my postcards and threw them into a big red post box.

I walked back to campus along the Wall and saw lots of little kids out playing; apparently they got the whole school day off because of the snow. England goes into chaos whenever a snowflake hits the ground. Mind you, the snow hardly stuck to the ground and where it did there was less than a half an inch. Can you imagine that? Getting off of school for less than half an inch of snow? Stritch doesn’t even close in a blizzard! Well I got back to campus wet and cold, had a dinner of veggie pasta and a caramel apple cake and went back to my room.
