After driving for about 4 hours, half of it in the dark on small English/Welsh country lanes, we finally arrived at about 11 (we left London pretty late cause the car hire company were full of ....!! And we had to drive straight though the centre of London to get to the M4 - a daunting task at the best of times, a nightmare on a Friday afternoon after the congestion charge is lifted. Alison navigated like a pro).
This house was mind blowing and unlike anything I'd ever seem before. We got there in the dark but it was still obviously massive and ancient (especially in South African terms). It's a manor house built in the 1500's, with metre thick walls and four storey's above ground and a basement. We had supper with the family and some friends and relaxed next to one of the (numerous) fire places. We were meant to sleep in the dorm accomodation with the other girls we travelled with but one couple did not arrive so we got our own room for the first night.
