On our departure from Reading, April's office was kind enough to give her an absolutely fantastic going away gift. . .a helicopter ride around Cape Town!  We booked the ride for Wednesday morning and it was the perfect day to do it!  The sun was out, there were no clouds in the sky - it was truly a beautiful day for our first helicopter ride ever.

We took off from the V&A waterfront and headed straight towards Table Mountain.  The view from the air gave us incredible pictures of Table mountain that many of you will definitely be seeing on the walls of our future house when you come to visit!  We began the tour heading down the side of the Twelve Apostles and on top of Camps Bay.  We passed the Lions Head and Rump, Devil's Peak, a number of suburbs of Cape Town, and also Houts Bay.  The views were breathtaking!

The ride itself was so cool - especially as we've never ridden in a helicopter before.  Chris had a makeshift airsickness bag ready for April in case it was needed - just in case her motion sickness kicked in.  But the ride wasn't bad at all - it was really, really smooth.  We were in a tiny little helicopter with our pilot, Guy.  Plus we got the headsets and everything - we were truly fitted out!

It was an awesome going away gift and we are so thankful that April's office was so generous - very, very cool.

After our helicopter trip, we picked up our rental car (our very own VW Chico) and headed further south to Cape Point and the Cape of Good Hope - this is where the Atlantic and Indian oceans meet.  We made our way there along Chapman's Peak Drive which has great views of Houts Bay and the mountain ranges.  During our tour of the southern cape we stopped off at Simon's Town and Boulder Beach to see the Jackass penguins - so adorable!  We even ran into a couple of packs of baboons during our drive - all in the middle of the street.  Luckily, none of them actually jumped on our car - although one did play a bit of chicken with Chris at the wheel of the car.

All in all a great day - can't believe our time in Cape Town is almost up!
