Hermanus: Southern Right Whales come to the protected cliff side bay of Hermanus in the spring to calf. Knysna: Had the pleasure of eating dinner at a local Elephant Park. The elephants who live there are the young (2-12 yrs)of a culled herd. Overpopulation of the elephant species forces the SA govnt to modify their numbers, but they keep young for conservation and educational purposes under controlled free-range conditions. They are amazing animals - composting all day. Staying at a beach side shack for 9 buck a day. The decor of this place is anything that has washed up out of the Indian Ocean: fishing net hammocks, drift wood and lazy afternoons of fishing and surfing in the back yard.
