You'll need to take a mini-bus from the station in Lilongwe, which is easy enough - but have no doubts, it will be a long ride, so be ready for it.
You'll have a couple informal transfers, and need to negotiate a ride once in the inland village near there, however you should have no problems finding a regular supply truck.
In the western end of the the village (which is acutally 7km) are a multitude of places to stay, each varying in quality to a degree, with different comfort levels.
The shack bars are great for a beer with the locals, however - be cautious when invited elsewhere (ie to a "local" bar with shake shake - local beer) or you may find yourself in trouble.
The island off the coast is great, and kayaks are available for rent - but note, you must be in shape, and under no circumstances should you try to swim this channel. The current is wicked and you'll be a long way out once you find yourself in deep sh*t.
The beaches are awesome, and the beach boys that roam them such as "the dude" and associated posse will take you on excursions, cook fresh meals on the beach, and otherwise as requested for minimal fees.
There are some short, but solid hikes nearby, which finding a local to guide you shouldn't be too hard. I recommend Peter Banda. Also, bring some repellent as the flies can be bothersome once in the hills.
This is a magical place, and if you're in Malawi period - you're one step ahead, but be sure not too miss a few days of R&R in this village. The village, people, mountains, and beaches are truly diamonds in the rough!
Enjoy.
